Clinical fellowship versus observership
Understand the difference before comparing opportunities.
Clinical fellowship
Usually involves supervised patient care and may include operative responsibility, on-call duties and research. Local registration, employment and indemnity commonly apply.
Observership
Typically permits observation, meetings and academic exchange but not independent patient care. Never assume an observership provides hands-on access.
Choose by objective
Choose clinical training for supervised skill development and an observership for focused exposure, networking or service-design learning.
